After establishing diplomatic relations, Honduras announced that it will soon initiate negotiations for a free trade agreement with China. “We will soon begin negotiations for a free trade agreement with China, which will also be good news and opportunities for access to our products,” stated Enrique Reina, the Honduran Foreign Minister.

Additionally, Foreign Minister Reina indicated that coffee will be the first product to enter the Chinese market. “We had already received a request from the coffee sector to export to China, and they had not been able to do so.” He also announced that shrimp, tobacco cigars, and beef will be among the other products that will start being exported in the near future. In this regard, the Central American country hopes to open up a range of opportunities with China in the financial, infrastructure, energy, technology, and other sectors.
