Mexico ranked as the second largest external supplier of medical instruments and devices to China in 2022, recording $2.037 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7%, according to data from the General Administration of Customs of China. As a result, Mexico displaced Germany to the third position ($1.731 billion) and is only surpassed by the United States ($3.253 billion). The range of products within the medical devices industry includes items such as face masks, gauze, and magnetic resonance imaging equipment.

Indeed, Mexican exports of medical devices to China have been growing consistently over the past decade, reaching a total of $132 million in 2012, with an accumulated growth of over 15 times. Mexico, known for its strong manufacturing industry in medical equipment, leads the exports of these products in Latin America, as stated by ICEX, a public entity for Export and Investment in Spain. The Mexican market for medical equipment is valued at approximately $4.7 billion, making it the second largest market in the region, second only to Brazil, according to Euromonitor, a consulting firm.
