Peru’s efforts to promote tourism in China were recognized at the Chinese Tourist Welcome (CTW) awards ceremony held in Guangzhou. The country received the gold award in the “Internet-Media” category for its successful initiatives to attract Chinese tourists with high purchasing power, particularly through digital platforms. The accolade specifically acknowledges the impactful projects implemented by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PROMPERU).

Two of PROMPERU’s initiatives, the Chinese New Year Campaign 2021, and the Live Broadcast with alpacas on WeChat, were honored at the CTW awards. The New Year Campaign, titled “My Memories of Peru,” aimed to inspire Chinese travelers to visit Peru after the reopening of borders between the two countries. The live broadcast from Cusco showcased the stunning landscapes, rich Andean culture, and the diverse attractions of Peru to the Chinese audience. The combined digital reach of both projects amounted to an impressive 7.9 million people.

The CTW Award, organized by the China Outbound Tourism Research Institute (COTRI) since 2004, is a prestigious recognition in the field of tourism promotion.
