The Chinese pharmaceutical company, Chongqing Zhifei Biological Products, has launched a new vaccine called Zifivax to combat COVID-19. According to the resolution published by Invima —the institution in charge of national health references— there are sufficient reasons to approve of vaccine, as it has proven to be effective against COVID-19.

Bogota joins the Year of the Water Tiger celebration

February 1, 2022, marked the Chinese New Year, a traditional holiday of great importance in the Chinese calendar. Bogotá (Colombia) was one of the cities in Latin America and the Caribbean that joined the celebration. The Colombian capital also took the opportunity to celebrate 42 years of diplomatic relations with the Asian country.

China outstrips the US with its imports to Colombia

At the beginning of the current year, the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) revealed data on imports between January and November 2021, estimating that imports totaled US$6,545 million. The most surprising aspect of this study was that, for the first time in eight years, China leads annual imports to Colombia.

The Caribbean Railroad: BYD’s proposal

Ecuador and Colombia to vaccinate the 6- to 11-year-old population with Sinovac

Ecuador started vaccination against the virus for children between 5 and 11 years of age, with Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinovac. In Colombia, the Ministry of Health may initiate the vaccination of minors between 6 and 11 years of age —especially those belonging to vulnerable populations— with the Coronavac vaccine, developed by the Sinovac laboratory.

Change of contractor at Hidroituango could reactivate Sinohydro’s participation in the project

Located on the Cauca River between the municipality of Ituango and the town of Puerto Valdivia and estimated to supply energy to a large section of the western Colombia, Hidroituango is one of the most ambitious hydroelectric projects to have been implemented in the country in recent years. Construction of the project began in November 2010, once the tender —in which the Chinese company Sinohydro participated— launched by Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) was won by the CCCI Consortium.
