Chile’s President, Gabriel Boric, participated in a State visit to China this month, during which a total of 13 cooperation agreements have been signed with the goal of modernizing and strengthening the relationship between the two nations. These agreements represent a significant step in solidifying the alliance between Chile and China, encompassing various areas of cooperation. During the signing ceremony, featuring President Boric and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren signed six of these agreements.

Among the signed agreements, the Cooperation Plan for the Joint Promotion of the Belt and Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road stand out. This plan establishes specific areas of cooperation and implementation mechanisms to advance within the context of China’s global strategic Belt and Road Initiative. Agreements were also reached to strengthen exchange and cooperation in the field of economic development, enabling discussions on policies and experiences related to macroeconomics, investment, sustainable development, clean energy, digital economy, and cultural and human exchanges. The mutual interest in fostering cooperation across a wide range of areas reflects both nations’ commitment to sustainable development and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. These agreements are designed to benefit the peoples of Chile and China while strengthening bilateral relations and building joint projects that contribute to the development of both countries and other developing nations.
