An online summit was held on Friday, April 29, at which the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Wang Yi, announced the establishment of a “Disaster Relief Fund for Caribbean countries.” Diplomatic representatives from the following nine nations attended the online meeting: Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados.
At the meeting, Wang Yi commented that the friendship between China and Caribbean countries goes back a long way. The comprehensive partnership between China and Caribbean countries has continuously deepened and cooperation in various fields has achieved fruitful results, setting a model of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, and common development.
The PRC is willing to work with Caribbean countries to jointly promote peaceful development and work out a plan to strengthen relations going forward. For their part, the countries in the Caribbean region firmly adhere to the one-China policy and support the latter in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. They also support the great cause of China’s reunification and actively participate in the high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road initiative.
