Argentina seeks to expand its presence in the west of Chengdu, a city located in the west of the People’s Republic of China. It aims to open a new consulate in Sichuan, a province located in the western corridor of the New Silk Road, which has twice the population and a GDP greater than that of Argentina. Sabino Vaca Narvaja, Argentina’s ambassador to the Asian country, announced this during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan province.
The new consulate will promote trade in West Asia, a region where Xi Jinping’s government, according to GrupoLaProvincia, has a powerful development program. In turn, the Argentine ambassador highlighted the province of Sichuan as a strategic point not only for the PRC economy, but fundamentally for the expansion of commercial exchange between Argentines and Chinese. Finally, in another statement, ambassador Sabino Vaca said that the visit was also intended to focus on the economic agenda, but there was also room to discuss cultural exchanges between the countries.
